Okazaki International Association was established in order to promote internationalisation through various types of activities. These include holding foreign language classes, seminars to promote international understanding, sister city exchange programmes, and providing support for the international communities in Okazaki.

At the end of June 2011, students from the Davis campus of the University of California came to live in Okazaki for a month in order to deepen their understanding of Japan and its culture. While staying at the Seinen no Ie Youth Center, the students tackled various projects examining both contemporary and traditional aspects of Japan. During their stay they also spent a day visiting several famous sites around Okazaki with the cooperation of the Okazaki International Association. OIA members took part in the trip and enjoyed a fun day out, communicating in both English and Japanese with the students while exploring Okazaki Park and the surrounding facilities. In November 2011, OIA organised an autumn hike in one of Okazaki’s most beloved nature spots, Kuragari Canyon. Participants were a mixture of OIA members and students from the nearby Yamasa Institute language school.
